Phil Ivey has been referred to as the number one poker competitor in the world by many of the top-ranked pros. Phil Ivey was born in Riverside, CA and relocated to New Jersey before reaching turning one. His grandfather taught Phil one cent-ante 5-Card Stud poker. From that point on, Phil was addicted to poker and wanted to learn whatever he possibly could about poker. He routinely told his parents that he wanted to be a professional poker player. He didn’t permit the detrimental feedback from other people destroy his ambition of being one of the strongest poker competitors on the planet.
Phil began competing intently after acquiring a false ID by the name of Jerome. He sharpened his skills at the casinos in Atlantic City. The first number of years for him were a teaching period and winning was not a normal thing at the time. Phil made his mark at the 2000 WSOP when he achieved 2 final tables and won his 1st World Series of Poker bracelet, in a $2, 500 Pot-Limit Omaha match. At the final table he defeated quite a few of the well known pros including "Amarillo Slim" Preston, David "Devilfish" Ulliot, and Phil Hellmuth, Jr.
He decided to take his skills to the successive level and headed out west to Vegas. Phil continues to participate in in "The Big Game" at the Bellagio with the greatest players in the world. Phil credits his success to discipline and an immeasurable passion for poker. Phil says that he is picking up skills every single day and is quite humble about his accomplishments. He admits to making blunders every single session of poker and constantly aspires to improve.
Even though Phil has won some large tournaments, he prefers destroying cash games on a regular basis.
