Internet Big Stakes Poker- Gus Hansen

Gus Hansen enjoyed a marvelous year on the World Poker Tour where he was the only player to achieve closing table in three of the tournaments. Gus Hansen has appeared on High Stakes Poker on GSN where he paid $400, 000 to play. You may recall one of the largest pots in high stakes poker history against Daniel Negreanu. Hansen secured a massive pot with 4 of a kind against Daniel’s full house. Hansen has earned many tv poker appearances and is thought to be one of the strongest enthusiasts in the world. While playing net poker, another side of Hansen has been seen. Gus regularly plays in the 200/400 NL maximum buy-in of $40, 000. Hansen generally buys-in for the minimum of $16, 000 and gambles very poorly. He waits patiently for a decent hand and then goes all-in. I believe Hansen is an amazing poker player but certainly not even close to the regular players at 200/400NL. Unless Gus is bankrupt, he has absolutely no reason to settle at the game with the min buy-in.

Buying in for the min takes a majority of the ability out of deep stack poker. Gus is supposed to be one of the greatest players in the world but he can’t buy in for the full amount. I believe television can skew our view of the real world at times. The greatest poker players in the world might be players you have never heard of. Gus can be found betting on web poker on Full Tilt. He commonly plays in big stakes Omaha and hold’em. Gus Hansen has shown himself as a tournament player. Can he back up his skills in cash games?
