Gus Hansen enjoyed a wonderful year on the WPT where he was the only participant to make it to the final game in 3 of the competitions. Gus Hansen has been seen on High Stakes Poker on The Game Show Network where he paid $400, 000 to play. You may recall one of the biggest pots in high stakes poker history up against Daniel Negreanu. He won a large pot with quads against Negreanu’s full house. Hansen has earned many televised poker appearances and is considered to be one of the best gamblers in the world. While competing in net poker, a different side of Hansen has been seen. He frequently competes in the 200/400 NL maximum buy-in of $40, 000. Gus more often than not buys-in for the min of $16, 000 and gambles very poorly. He sits there waiting for a decent hand and then pushes all in. I know Gus is an amazing poker player but certainly not even close to the everyday players at 200/400no limit. Unless Gus is flat broke, he has little or no reason to settle at the game with the min buy in.
Playing for the min takes almost all of the expertise out of big stack poker. Gus is presumed to be 1 of the best players anywhere in the world but he cannot buy in for the total amt.. I believe tv can skew our perception of the real world every now and then. The best players anywhere in the world may be players you have will not have heard of. Gus can be seen wagering on online poker on Full Tilt. He normally competes in big stakes Omaha and texas holdem. Gus has shown himself as a tournament player. Can he use his skills in cash games?
