Gus Hansen experienced a marvelous year on the World Poker Tour where he was the only player to make it to the last game in three of the events. Gus Hansen has been seen on High Stakes Poker on GSN where he bought into the game for $400, 000. You might remember one of the largest pots in high stakes poker history up against Daniel Negreanu. Hansen raked in a big pot with quads against Daniel’s full house. Gus has made many tv poker appearances and is thought to be one of the strongest players around the world. While gambling on net poker, a different side of Hansen has been seen. Gus regularly plays in the 200/400 NL maximum buy in of Forty Thousand dollars. Hansen more often than not buys-in for the min of Sixteen Thousand dollars and plays very poorly. He sits there waiting for a decent hand and then goes all-in. I know Gus is an excellent poker player but certainly not even close to the regular players at 200/400no limit. Unless Gus is penniless, he has little or no reason to sit at the game with the minimum buy in.
Playing for the min takes a majority of the expertise out of big stack poker. Hansen is presumed to be 1 of the greatest players anywhere in the world but he can’t buy in for the full dollar value. I think television can alter our perception of the real world every now and then. The greatest poker players in the world might just be players you have never heard of before. Gus can be seen playing online poker on Full Tilt. He normally competes in high stakes omaha/8 and hold’em. Gus has proven himself as a tournament player. Can he use his talents in cash rounds?
